All journeys are true, but not all are factual. -Dan Millman
Truth is often mistreated, blamed for the pain caused by well-disguised lies. We examine ourselves and say things like, "I'm so dumb, I'll never really know anything," or "I just keep doing idiot things with my horse!" We begin to label these things as the "truth" about ourselves, when nothing could be farther from true. But, by believing them true we make them factual, even if they are not true. So, how do we know what is really true about us and what is not?
This is where non-harming and truth-seeking play together to give us insight. the practice of non-harming, tells us that we should refrain from being hateful, even towards ourselves and even in the smallest of matters. This applies to the extent that we should even forgive ourselves for the times that we have not forgiven ourselves.
The reason that we can give ourselves this grace is that through the practice of only living in truth we see that everything in this world, including us, is perfect due to the simple fact that in this moment, nothing could possibly be different than it is. The past is gone and the future hasn't happened, so the truth is that whatever exists right now is just as it must be.
Ergo, we are perfect just as we are in this moment. What an immense liberty! It means we truly can let go of our negative self-image because all the lies that hold up that façade are in a past that no longer exists.
Feel the freedom of this truth. Let it touch your heart and then let your heart shine through you in any place you can! If you become too tired, or angry, or upset in any way, and you don't feel any ability to be anything else, know that that is just as it is. Soon you will feel the pull of the truth like a tug on your arm. If you can add just four ounces of energy to that tug it will become a dynamo, shining light on the facts that reveal the truth.
